Trolley coach restoration begins

April 6, 2025
The Manitoba Transit Heritage Association, together with a grant from the Thomas Sills Foundation and administered by the Winnipeg Foundation, has begun work on the restoration of Metro Transit trolley coach #1768. This electric trolley was purchased by the Winnipeg Electric Company in 1950 as part of its rails to rubber conversion program. The unit operated on city bus routes until October 30, 1970 when it served as the last in-service trolley coach. The bus was stored in 1970.
The MTHA restoration project is being lead by MTHA veteran volunteer Jim Dudych and a team of helpers. Work will include frame strengthing, body work, re-wiring and painting. Please check back for updates on our progress.
