Ronald Henry Alexander

November 6, 2016


Ron was a long serving employee of Winnipeg Transit and predecessor companies (including Metro Transit, Greater Winnipeg Transit Commission and the Winnipeg Electric Company), and in his retirement he played a key role in the establishment of the Manitoba Transit Heritage Association including serving as its first President from 1989 until 1997.

John Kapusta

July 27, 1931 - September 18, 2024


John retired in 1994 as Superintendent of Maintenance for Winnipeg Transit, having worked for 42 years for the company and it's predecessors. He was one of the original founding members that established the Manitoba Transit Heritage Association in 1989.

Benny Harold Konowalchuk

November 13, 1943 - June 12, 2019


Benny was particularly proud of his work as a machinist with Winnipeg Transit for over 30 years, retiring in 1999. He enjoyed using his creativity as a machinist to make specialized parts at work and as a volunteer with the Manitoba Transit Heritage Association, where he was president for many years. Most of all Benny enjoyed restoring and showing Bus 111 a 1937 Twin Coach.

Edward J. Mayo

September 22, 1941 - March 25, 1998


Ed was a bus operator for Winnipeg Transit for many years. He was a dedicated friend and served as a Vice-President of the Manitoba Transit Heritage Association. He enjoyed driving Bus 111, the 1937 Twin Coach.

John Edward Baker

June 26, 1938 - November 17, 2000


John was trained as a draftsman and worked for Winnipeg Hydro for many years. His career at the City of Winnipeg spanned over 36 years, including positions with Streets and Transportation, Communications, and Corporate Services. After retiring in 1993, he was a founding member and active volunteer of the Manitoba Transit Heritage Association.

Kenneth James Graham

1914 - September 10, 2007


Kenny was a life long member of the Amalgamated Transit Union having worked as transit bus driver, and choosen driver of the year in 1967, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Assiniboine Credit Union since its inception serving, among other positions, as president of the board of directors.

George Thomas Watson

June 29, 1941 - March 7, 2019


George was a long serving employees of Winnipeg Transit starting as a Bus Operator in 1967 and retiring in 1997 as the Head of the Instruction Division. He had a key role in the establishment of the Manitoba Transit Heritage Association including serving as Treasurer.

Dennis Robert Cavanagh

October 13, 1945 - April 8, 2024


Dennis started his career driving for Grey Goose Bus Lines and later served as an employee of Winnipeg Transit for over 30 years retiring in 2012. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Manitoba Transit Heritage Association in 1989, and was co-author of "Dusty Trails to Divided Highways: A history of intercity bus lines in Manitoba", first published in 2006 and updated in 2022.

William Alan Luke

February 26, 1925 - January 23, 2022


Bill was a writer, journalist and bus industry historian. He was involved in the bus industry for his entire life, beginning his career in 1948 with Jefferson Bus Lines in Minneapolis and later managing the operations of Empire Bus Lines in Spokane. Bill, predeceased by his wife Adelene, together established Bus Ride magazine in 1965, which has become one of the prominent trade journals of the bus industry. Bill was a dear friend and supporter of the Manitoba Transit Heritage Association.

Rick Borland

July 12, 1945 - July 7, 2021


In 1980 he became the Director of Transit at the age of 35, making him the youngest Director. During his time with Transit Rick oversaw transportation for the Pope's visit, two Grey Cups, the Pan Am games and two snowstorms in 1986 and 1997 that shut the city down completely. Rick encouraged the establishment of the Manitoba Transit Heritage Association and supported the volunteers in their work to collect and preserve vintage transit buses.
